Successful Speech Needs Vision, Careful
Preparation
By One form of
persuasive communication is writing a speech, said ▪ The
vision. You first must have a clear objective for this speech. Ask
yourself, what is the desired outcome or result from presenting this speech? ▪ Topic-specific
research. You can find
information to support your presentation in a variety of places including Web
sites, trade journals, newspapers, books, quotes, surveys and reports, government
or association statistics, and so on. If your company or organization has
conducted any kind of research, you'll want to consider incorporating some of

office told me...'' This is particularly important when you are

audience. · Give your audience a call to action. Not
researching your audience can be disastrous. ▪ Call
to action. Another
important element of a successful speech is asking the audience to do
something specific. Somewhere in the body of your speech, generally toward
the end, you will want to ask your audience what action it will take to make
the vision happen. ▪ Start
strong. A powerful
opener like a provocative question, startling statement, interesting fact or
quote that captures attention is a good way to grab the audience from the
outset. Overwhelmed
